How ZIP Extraction Works
A ZIP archive stores each file in compressed form using the DEFLATE algorithm â a combination of LZ77 back-reference encoding and Huffman coding. At the end of every ZIP is a Central Directory that acts like a table of contents, recording each file's name, uncompressed size, compressed size, byte offset within the archive, and a CRC-32 checksum for integrity verification.

Each file in a ZIP has a stored CRC-32 checksum. After decompression, the tool computes the CRC-32 of the extracted data and compares it to the stored value. A match confirms the file was extracted without corruption.
