How Barcode Encoding Works

A barcode represents data as a series of parallel bars and spaces of varying widths. Each format defines its own encoding rules — the mapping between characters and bar patterns.

Code 128 is a high-density format with three subsets (A, B, C) selected automatically based on input. It supports the full 128-character ASCII set.

EAN-13 / UPC-A Check Digit Formula: The check digit ensures the barcode number is valid and detects scanning errors.
