ROAS Formula & How It Works
Return on Ad Spend (ROAS) is calculated by dividing the revenue generated from advertising by the amount spent on advertising.
ROAS Formula
This gives you a ratio showing how much revenue you earn for every rupee spent on advertising.
Variables Explained:
- Revenue from Ads: Total income directly generated from the advertising campaign. This should include all sales, subscriptions, or conversions that can be traced back to the ads.
- Ad Spend: Total cost of the advertising campaign including platform fees, creative costs, agency fees, and any other related expenses.
The resulting ratio tells you your advertising efficiency. A ROAS of 5:1 means you earn ₹5 for every ₹1 spent on advertising.
Practical ROAS Examples
Mumbai E-commerce Store
Scenario: Facebook ads for fashion products
Ad Spend: ₹50,000
ROAS = 2,50,000 ÷ 50,000 = 5:1
Result: Excellent ROAS of 5:1 (500%) - earning ₹5 for every ₹1 spent.
Delhi Coaching Institute
Scenario: Google Ads for course admissions
Ad Spend: ₹2,00,000
ROAS = 8,00,000 ÷ 2,00,000 = 4:1
Result: Good ROAS of 4:1 (400%) - sustainable for education sector.
New York SaaS Company
Scenario: LinkedIn ads for software subscriptions
Ad Spend: $3,000
ROAS = 15,000 ÷ 3,000 = 5:1
Result: Strong ROAS of 5:1 - efficient customer acquisition for SaaS.
What is ROAS? + Multi-Language Reference
Return on Ad Spend (ROAS) is a marketing metric that measures the revenue generated for every rupee spent on advertising. Unlike ROI which considers profit, ROAS focuses specifically on advertising efficiency.
