Unix Timestamp Converter
Convert Unix time to readable dates or turn a calendar date into Unix timestamp values in seconds and milliseconds with local and UTC output.
Convert Timestamp or Date
Current Unix Time
Unix Timestamp to Date
Date to Unix Timestamp
How to Use
- Use the timestamp field to convert Unix time into a readable date, or use the date and time field to convert a calendar value into Unix time.
- Type a Unix timestamp in seconds or milliseconds, or select a valid date and time from the input field.
- Select Convert to process the input. The tool automatically detects whether the timestamp is in seconds or milliseconds.
- Check the readable date results in both UTC and your local timezone, along with ISO format and timestamp values.
- Use Clear to reset all fields, hide the result area, and start a fresh conversion.
Key Features
⏱️ Seconds and milliseconds
The converter detects standard Unix timestamps whether they are entered in 10-digit seconds or 13-digit milliseconds format.
🌍 UTC and local output
See the same moment in universal coordinated time and your device timezone, which helps when checking logs or API responses.
📅 Reverse conversion
Pick a normal date and time to instantly get Unix timestamp values for development, analytics, or testing tasks.
🧪 Developer-friendly results
The tool shows ISO 8601 output, readable strings, and both timestamp units in one place for quick verification.
⚠️ Validation support
Invalid entries are caught before output appears, so you can correct formatting issues without guessing what went wrong.
📱 Quick access anywhere
It works smoothly on phones, tablets, and desktops, making it useful when you need a date conversion during work or study.
Formula and How It Works
Unix time counts elapsed time from the Unix epoch: 1970-01-01 00:00:00 UTC. The converter checks your input and decides whether it represents seconds or milliseconds. If the timestamp length is large enough to look like milliseconds, it uses the value directly. If it looks like seconds, it multiplies by 1000 to create a JavaScript date object.
Date = new Date(Milliseconds)
Seconds = floor(Milliseconds ÷ 1000)
Variables explained: seconds means whole seconds from the Unix epoch, milliseconds means thousandths of a second from the same epoch, and Date is the readable calendar representation created from the millisecond value.
For reverse conversion, the selected date and time is turned into a timestamp by reading the device-local value, converting it to milliseconds since the epoch, and then deriving seconds with floor division. That is why timezone awareness matters when comparing UTC output with local output.
Practical Examples
🇮🇳 Priya — Hyderabad
Scenario: Priya is checking server logs that show 1711526400.
Calculation: 1711526400 seconds × 1000 = 1711526400000 milliseconds.
Verified result: The converter shows a readable UTC date and the corresponding local date on her system.
🇮🇳 Karan — Mumbai
Scenario: Karan needs a Unix value for a scheduled app event on a specific evening.
Calculation: He selects the date and time, and the tool outputs both seconds and milliseconds from the chosen local value.
Verified result: He copies the seconds value into his backend job configuration.
🇩🇪 Lena — Berlin
Scenario: Lena receives a 13-digit timestamp from an analytics export.
Calculation: The tool detects milliseconds automatically and converts it straight into local time, UTC, and ISO format.
Verified result: She confirms the campaign event time without manual division.
What Is Unix Timestamp Converter?
A Unix timestamp converter is a utility that translates machine-readable epoch values into normal dates and times that humans can understand. It also does the reverse by taking a calendar date and converting it into the Unix value commonly used by databases, APIs, programming languages, and system logs.
This matters because timestamps show up everywhere in technical work. Developers inspect them in API payloads, analysts see them in exported datasets, testers check them in application events, and support teams read them in log records. Without conversion, a large integer like 1711526400 does not tell you much at a glance.
Our tool helps by handling both directions, supporting seconds and milliseconds, and showing UTC alongside local time. If you want a deeper explanation of why Unix time is used, where timezone confusion happens, and how to avoid common mistakes, read the full guide below.

Is this tool free to use?
Yes. You can convert Unix timestamps and date values in your browser without any charge.
What is a Unix timestamp?
A Unix timestamp is the number of seconds or milliseconds that have passed since 1970-01-01 00:00:00 UTC.
Does the tool support seconds and milliseconds?
Yes. It detects common 10-digit second values and 13-digit millisecond values automatically.
Can I convert a date into Unix time?
Yes. Enter a valid date and time to get Unix timestamp results in both seconds and milliseconds.
Why are UTC and local time different?
UTC is a global standard timezone, while local time depends on your device timezone and offset from UTC.
Can I use negative timestamps?
Yes. Negative Unix timestamps represent dates before 1970-01-01 UTC and are handled by the converter.
What happens if I enter an invalid value?
The tool shows a validation message and does not display results until the input is corrected.
Is this useful for developers and analysts?
Yes. It helps developers, testers, API users, and data teams read log times, debug events, and verify date storage.
