How the Countdown Is Calculated
The countdown timer works by finding the difference between your target date-time and the current moment, then breaking that difference into human-readable units.
Days = Math.floor(Total ms ÷ 86,400,000)
Hours = Math.floor((Total ms % 86,400,000) ÷ 3,600,000)
Minutes = Math.floor((Total ms % 3,600,000) ÷ 60,000)
Seconds = Math.floor((Total ms % 60,000) ÷ 1,000)
The timer recalculates this every 1,000 milliseconds using JavaScript's setInterval. When the remaining time reaches zero, the timer stops and displays a completion message. All arithmetic uses the UTC-based millisecond timestamps from the JavaScript Date object, which ensures accuracy across daylight saving time changes and different time zones.

What Is a Countdown Timer?
A countdown timer is a tool that measures the time remaining until a specific future event. Unlike a stopwatch that counts up from zero, a countdown timer ticks downward from a set duration or target date, giving you an immediate visual sense of how much time you have left.
Countdowns are used everywhere — from rocket launches and cricket match starts to wedding days, exam dates, product launches, and New Year's Eve celebrations. They create a sense of urgency, help with time management, and make it easy to communicate deadlines to a team or audience.
This tool is particularly useful for students tracking exam dates, freelancers managing project deadlines, event planners building anticipation, and anyone who wants a quick answer to "how many days until…?"
